THIRDS PROMOTION CONFIRMED Date: 30 Sep 09
Scarborough 3rds have been invited to join the Beckett League for the 2010 season, their reward for finishing runners up to Hunmanby in the Derwent Valley League top division. The majority of home fixtures will be played at Scarborough College with a couple being pencilled in for North Marine Road.
Boro skipper Martin North was elated with the news and told the website that "after the disappointment of last year when we also finished runners -up but were denied promotion due to the poor pitch and facilities at the Oriel cricket ground, our new home for the 2009 season,we now have the opportunity to move our club forward in our efforts to attract new players and to develop our young cricketers on better pitches and in a better standard of cricket."
He went on to say that "over the past few years Scarborough Cricket Club have forged some strong links with Scarborough College with many pupils turning out for both College and Club, perhaps the most notable example being former Yorkshire captain David Byas."
"Furthermore the College facilities are excellent and it is hoped that the youngsters will develop their game at an even faster rate by taking full advantage of playing on good pitches certainly every other week ."
" I would like to thank Tony Gibson for all the hard work he has put in ,in securing the College venue for our home games next season and who knows for seasons to come but it must be stressed also that our involvement at Oriel will continue as a backup should the College venue become unavailable in future years."
