On Sunday in the Homeguard Cup quarter final at Hunmanby, Boro marched into the semi -finals with an incredible last ball victory. Set a formidable target of 180 for an unlikely win the Scarborough batsmen set about their task in positive fashion with the in form Renwick brothers Matthew(34) and Alex Renwick (42) leading the way at more than a run a ball.Tom Bruce (42) then took up the mantle with an intelligent knock but once he was dismissed the match started to swing in favour of the home side with still 36 required off just 4 overs.
Damien Foster (14 no )and Anthony Hunter(23 no) reduced the deficit to 21 off just 2 overs but the penultimate over bowled by L Bailey proved to be the turning point with the visitors taking 15 runs including two consecutive straight sixes by Hunter.Six runs were still needed off the final over bowled by Crawford .The first ball yielded 2 runs from a misfield at long on and when three further runs were scored off the next four balls by Hunter the scores were level. The field was brought in to pressurise Foster who faced the final ball of the match but this was to no avail as the teenager pulled the ball to the boundary fence to secure an amazing victory.(see full match report)
